Medical Marijuana Treatment

Thank you for your interested in Green Medicine at Aligned Health Center and medical marijuana.  While the number of physicians in Ohio providing medical marijuana is constantly growing, the quality of care has not.  Far too many companies lack a patient first approach, and we pride ourselves on focusing on the competent and compassionate care our board certified physicians have studied and trained to provide.

Please take a moment to review some frequently asked questions.

Is marijuana really legal?

While marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, it has been legalized in Ohio at the state level.  It can only be recommended by physicians (MD/DO) specially endorsed by the state to do so.

Do I have to see a physician?

Yes.  Not only is it required by law, but it ensures you are receiving the best possible care.  At Green Medicine we require a minimum of an initial in-person visit with another in-person follow-up at 30 days.  After that we need to see you at least one a year, but more regular visits are encouraged and phone calls are welcomed.

What happens at the first visit?

You will receive an evaluation by the physician including a review of your medical history, current treatment plan and treatment goals.

Can anyone get medical marijuana?

Under Ohio law, only patients with one of the following medical conditions may currently participate in the medical marijuana program: AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy or another seizure disorder, fibromyalgia, glaucoma, hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, pain that is either chronic and severe or intractable, Parkinson’s disease, positive status for HIV, post-traumatic stress disorder, sickle cell anemia, spinal cord disease or injury, Tourette’s syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and ulcerative colitis.

What do I need for the first visit?

All pre-visit forms must be completed and submitted a minimum of 3 business days prior to your appointment day.  This is extremely important to ensure the physician has adequate time to review your records and determine if medical marijuana is the right treatment for you.  You will also need a valid state issued photo ID, and cash for office fees.  Due to federal regulations we cannot accept credit/debit cards or checks.

What are the fees?

The initial fee is $250 and this covers your first two visits.  Again, due to federal regulations this must be paid in cash.  We apologize for this inconvenience.

What happens after the appointment?

If the physician determines medical marijuana is right for you, our office will enter you into Ohio’s patient registry. The state will then send you an email to set up your profile.  You will be required to pay a registration fee with the state – $50 for patients and $25 for caregivers.

How do I get the actual marijuana?

Once you are fully registered with the State’s registry you will be sent a card that can be taken to any state licensed dispensary.
